Hugging Face, a leading machine learning company, has announced a $10 million commitment to provide free shared GPUs to small developers, academics, and startups. This initiative, named ZeroGPU, aims to counteract the centralization of AI advancements and make state-of-the-art AI technologies accessible to a wider audience. ZeroGPU will be available through Hugging Face’s Spaces platform, allowing multiple users or applications to access shared Nvidia A100 GPU devices concurrently. This approach optimizes resource utilization, making advanced computational power cost-effective and energy-efficient. Delangue noted the challenges faced by smaller entities in securing GPU resources from major cloud providers, which often require long-term commitments and significant financial outlays.
